Tuesday and Wednesday 14th 15th April

Tuesday and Wednesday

Both days were sunny and bright with a brisk easterly wind.

I went up on the Carn first thing but needed coat and hat today! The wind was chilly, but another glorious day.

The gorse is blooming, lots of wild garlic and the first of the genuine bluebells are beginning to show.

Along with sudoku; a word game on my phone and the jigsaw, I have a go at one of these from time to time.

This one took ages... it's a game Bridgie gave me with just 6 pieces.
You have to place the cards in the correct place according to the symbols around the edge.

Sometimes you need a bridge (sometimes two) or a pagoda on the path... sometimes the path has to track back and forth through a set number of tiles...in this case 7!

It took a long time to solve.

Oh... and this is an example of the word game i do on my phone!

I headed out for another walk exploring the road beyond the primroses covered cemetery and discovered these two marvellous stones!
Wonderful aren't they, I think they should have a name but i haven't come up with one yet.

Wednesday was also a beautiful bright day. I walked over to the Community Farm to pick up some bits... including a birdy jigsaw but also some absolutely delicious freshly harvested sprouting broccoli!  (I re-use the bags by the way!)

Less walking today and more jigsawing (if there is such a word).
This one is coming on and getting harder by the piece.

It was breezy again today and I was not envious of this BT man.

And finally, I came across this...

:-) it's lovely! It's all the shops in the square... the chippy; Stones where I get all my provisions; Warrens (bread and pasty) The Square (pizzas and sandwiches and salads) and McFaddens the butchers (amazing scotch eggs!)

Very clever whoever did it.

Hope everyone is keeping safe.

Easter weekend

Easter Weekend

I like the colours and shapes of this view from my south facing window, especially with the early morning sun.

I had a couple of walks up on to the Carn today and was talking to a neighbour Colin. He does all the flowers for The Commercial and is always on the go...he asked if I'd seen the primroses at the cemetery and I hadn't so I added an extra walk!

They were breathtaking! I have never so many in one place...it is like a sea of primroses!

Rural scene on the way home
The Cemetery is just up the road, turn right as if to go to Land's end and it's just there on the left. It was a beautiful sight.

Easter Sunday had another beautiful sunrise.

And we had a family zoom...it seems I was doing a star wars impression at this point and Tim had just got his camera working after it being intermittent or broken for 20 minutes!

My walk up the Carn resulted in this pretty array.

These little expeditions try to balance the distress I feel, especially when things like this are the BBC headline after over 950 people have died... I'm glad Boris survived but... what are the media doing?

I had to go out for a very long walk in the early evening despite the unusual air pollution recorded in Cornwall over the last couple of days.

It was as still as still, absolutely beautiful.

It helped me decide to be careful how much news I watch and have decided I will not watch the daily broadcast from the government...

Monday was another beautiful day although now with a wind. The sea is such a beautiful colour on days like this.

Our Coop, which was supposed to be closed as it's being refurbished and made bigger, is remaining open so I popped down for some needed milk and, inspired by Jeannie, I bought some bacon to make an eggy-bakey pie!

It is tasty... but not good for the waistline which is getting bigger by the week.

A final thought... as of 13th April...

Korea: population 51.6 million   have had 217 deaths
England: population 55.9 million have reported 10,261 deaths in hospital (there are thousands of others)

and no-one can even apologise to the nurses for not providing enough personal protection equipment in time.

I hope wherever you are, you are in a better position than the UK.

Friday 10th April

Friday
Today I have felt angry and very sad.
980 people in UK died from coronavirus today, over 800 yesterday, almost 9000 altogether... And the reason it has made me angry is that there was another way of dealing with this and we didn't take it.
I don't know why there isn't outrage that these figure have seemed acceptable from the start..did Korea ever talk about a death of 20,000 as being a good result.
And then in our government press conference today they talked of starting to make personal protection equipment... Why, when they saw what was happening in China and S Korea, didn't they begin preparing back in February?

It is awful ... And we seem so powerless.

I'm so sorry for our countries arrogance.
We did have another pretty sunrise, rising further round each day.
The only peace I found today was when totally absorbed
beginning this beautiful jigsaw...

Hopefully tomorrow I will feel more positive.

Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday and Thursday
Wednesday was another beautiful day.
It was so warm I moved the thermometer into the sun to see how hot it was...

And it was warm!!
I completed the jigsaw... which was very pleasing.

And I began a new one...made.in Germany but apparently of Cornwall, I think it will be difficult and really fun.

My walk just took me up to the Carn and around it, then back across the middle, it was very pretty.
There was also a lovely sunset and a beautiful moon.

An orange moon.

Thursday dawned blue sky and beautiful again.
I popped down to get some supplies and picked up this excellent deal from the butcher. The scotch egg was particularly delicious because it was still warm.

The house in front of me has had a digger noisily creating a terrace.

Tuesday 7th April

Tuesday

Trying to make the morning photo interesting! It was another beautiful morning and the garden is looking very pretty with the camellias still in bloom.

I can stand and watch from my window and see the birds having fun, there were two magpie in the garden though I think only one is visible. They love to perch in the fir tree in the distance, sometimes on top of the highest branch and I don't know how they keep their balance.

In the early evening I looked up and saw these amazing clouds - lenticular I think. The picture doesn't do them justice their top surfaces were liked glacier polished rock - so smooth and wonderful curved.

Monday 6th

Monday

It was so warm, with no wind that it was warm enough to sit in just a tee shirt.
I was joined by various birds feeding and chirruping in the garden and could sit and write emails. It is good to keep in touch.

Yesterday I showed you Tigger looking out of the bedroom window and now here's Percy the penguin - he did the Bath to Rome trip so is a well travelled chap!

I decided to make some cheese scones using Bridgie's recipe from Milton Ernest Garden Centre.

Plus... some stalks of the three cornered leek which  added a wonderful garlic flavour - they were so yummy I'm afraid i ate most of them... the waistline is growing and I don't seem to want to stop it!

The jigsaw has been fun and quite do-able if you know what I mean...

I do not feel at ease when I walk further than the Carn or to the shops and round... natural instinct perhaps for staying safe... an inbuilt safety device.
Sometimes I think today I'll go for a long walk... but as soon as I reach the edge of the town the safety block clicks in so I head back home.
Better to be safe...

I have the Carn within happy reach and I feel fortunate that this is so.

The vibrancy of this green was eyecatching...

until tomorrow 😊.

Sunday, April 5, 2020

Two for the price of one.

Saturday and Sunday!
Saturday and Sunday began cloudy but the sun soon came out.
To encourage the children on their walks we've been asked to put teddies in our window for the kiddies to hunt for... so Tigger is looking out for me and enjoying my houseplants!
I decided to tackle my kitchen wall that I had prepared earlier in the week.
I began with the nasty paint that protects against damp. I kept the door open to lessen the impact of the smell and it wasn't too bad.

While the first part was drying I spent some time on the next jigsaw and the usual sudoku and word games.
Then after lunch I painted the white topcoat. It went on very easily and didn't take too long. I left the door open (and windows) for the rest of the afternoon...

And then we were treated to another beautiful sunset!

Sunday
Sunday dawned cloudy again but not for long and with a strong wind it was a perfect day for drying some washing.
I spent a quiet day with a trip trip down to the coop to buy a chicken to roast... Yum!!
The kitchen wall is looking fine and I was able to put everything back in its place.
Later on this afternoon we had a little rain, the first time in two weeks.

Friday 3rd April

Friday 3rd April
This morning was grey but there were soon things to brighten the day with chats via zoom to Tas... Lovely to see and have fun with the family.
Not long after that it seemed the Bowers were having our family chat too... quickly followed by two lengthy phone calls so the day disappeared before we knew it!
Sadly I had news that Lindsay's mum had died. She had been in and out of hospital with frailty for a year or so and finally it was her time. She was in her mid 90s.
The cloudy day had by this time become another gloriously sunny one. So I walked down through the town towards Cape and had a little walk on the course. It's strange how even walking that distance from home seems almost wrong so I was happy to get back close to home again. There were one or two out walking but not many.
A particular delight was skirting the farmer's field which he had just ploughed, the soil looked so good and rich and wholesome.
