29th April

 29th April

Last Tuesday evening Lindsay and Peter, their daughter Holly and husband Adam, Di (another golfer) and I had another meal at the club as the owner's son Brendan was singing 60s and 70s music. It was a lovely evening (cold of course) but again it was so good to be able to enjoy an evening like this.

My neighbours in front, in fact the wife, has worked so hard on the willow hedge. She has fixed them together and cut off the excess. It looks very good and will be interesting to watch how it grows.

With the easier restrictions we actually had a committee meeting in person for the first time for almost a year!
We had it in Frieda's garden in Penzance. It was a beautiful evening and the sea was the most wonderful colours.

Frieda has a beautiful garden! We managed by moving the chairs to sit at a safe distance.

It was so windy on Thursday that our usual golf was called off but in the afternoon I was delighted to get my hair cut!
Yippee! How good that feels!

The weather continued sunny and cold, I had to send Keith this picture of the wicket being rolled in preparation for a match!

On Friday I was able to have coffee with Judith and Carl in their garden. Judith's father died in January and so has been very fraught with sorting everything out... he lived in London so they had lots of to-ing and fro-ing.

Saturday continued with gale force winds so no golf again but a walk down to Cape where it was sheltered from the easterly!

I love the worn smooth curve of the rocks below.

Monday saw over 150 players playing a pairs competition at Cape. It was run by Mizuno and two of our members (men) won the overall prize of a trip to Malaga. it was absolutely lovely to see the course full - there were a lot of visitors some from as far afield as Birmingham!

The weather was wonderful, even the bitter wind had dropped and the course was looking at its best.

Yesterday we had rain for the first time in a month! The farmers certainly need it (and gardens and golf courses too of course!).

We played 9 holes today, a very heavy shower drenched us but I was playing with two ladies I hadn't seen for ages so it was absolutely lovely to be out there.

19th April

 19th April

Three of us played a few holes last Tuesday afternoon and then stayed on to eat on the terrace.

We had cocktails and in my case a burger.

Both delicious! The burgers are supplied by Olds so they are really good.

It was fabulous to do something so ordinary as sit together and eat!
We were treated to a lovely sunset too - we needed rugs over our legs to keep us warm plus coats and hats but absolutely worth it!

Thursday morning was the first qualifying competition we have played using the 9 hole system and we were treated to more sunshine but it is still cold.

We also have another pond... if the other one is Crocodile Creek perhaps this is Alligator Alley!

The work on the terrace is complete with the addition of glass to give some protection from the breeze but the joy of an uninterrupted view.

So my weeks are now taken up with lots of golf stuff, I help with the new players on a Thursday and Saturday afternoon, and have been playing on Tuesday, Thursday's and Saturdays!

For the first time in ages we had only a breeze on Saturday and wall to wall sunshine. We were playing a team competition and it was a lot of fun.
It shows how much impact the wind has in that when we finished this Saturday I had walked further than the previous week but didn't feel too tired or stiff at the end. Last week, when we had fierce and bitter winds, I was crocked!

Crocodile Creek has been tidied up with turf around the edges and it looks really good! There are already a good number of balls in it!!

Yesterday I carried on with the lovely wooden jigsaw the 'Babes' bought me for Mother's Day of Tintagel.

It is so lovely to do - very satisfying clicking the pieces in.

It has been lovely to stop and have coffee outside with a groups of ladies, it is definitely feeling more positive - some of the ladies have had their second jabs too so that is progress.
I continue to ignore Twitter and most news Programmes bar the headlines. There is much that would infuriate if I spent time on it.

We recently had 4 professional golfers come and do a Video blog at Cape, it was in middle of the gale so it was fascinating to watch. One of them was Sophie Keech who plays on the LET tour so it was especially interesting to see how she played.

If you fancy watching some of it - here's a link to them playing the 13th,14th and 15th.

All for now, back on the course later this morning then not again till Thursday...I need to bake some bread tomorrow!

13th April!

 April 13th

Time has flown over the last couple of weeks, one of the highlights was our family zoom on Sunday morning when Bridgie joined us whilst she was running a half marathon for charity!

It was such fun to join/see her.

I guess you will know that I have spent a lot of time at the golf course.  The weather has been dry and sunny, but the northerly wind was whipping in bringing the temperature down to about zero.

It's been like that for quite a while so we wrap up in lots of layers but it makes playing physically tiring. 9 holes feels like 18!

The club have also joined in a Golf Access system to encourage young and new players. I've been going to help on Sunday and Thursday afternoons and have really enjoyed it.

There have been a lot of changes to the course, one of which is "Crocodile Creek" which has been dug out, lined and filled over the last couple of weeks.

It's made playing the first and particularly the second hole more interesting.

They've also put up a 'sail' over the patio and glass is being put around on top of the wall to give some shelter.

Yesterday was their first day open for outside eating, I'm going to test it out this afternoon with thwo of the golf ladies.

We will need our coats, hats amd gloves probably as it is still very cold (there was snow in Cornwall yesterday).

I had a lovely walk with lady from St Just at Trengwainton Gardens at the end of March.

This was the first proper blossom I'd seen, partly because I've not driven anywhere over the last months and St Just itself is not renowned for Blossom!

I clearly admired these on a previous visit because I must have bought and planted some as they are now flowering in my garden - I had completely forgotten!

Other things from the last couple of weeks were this awful fire which burned a vast area of heathland - apparently started deliberately;

one evening when the light was incredible;

a fabulous wooden jigsaw which was a mother's day present from the babes;

and a willow hedge being planted by my neighbours in the front. I'm glad it's not a fence and it will eventually give them some privacy.

That's brought you up to date. I've been a bit tired this week from all the golf and stuff so have had a few days doing much less.

I am still putting in my order at Stone's for my fruits and veg and collect that on a Thursday.

The lockdown restrictions were eased yesterday which has meant bars serving meals and drinks outside but not inside.

Slow progress but progress is being made.

Our rates in Cornwall are now 8/100,000 although the roll out of lateral flow testing to everyone may change that a bit I guess. You can order them online (free of charge) I ordered some yesterday so will have some in the house if I feel it's necessary to do.
