Tuesday 23 to Sunday 28th

June 23rd on
Bridgie began work at 8.15 ... she popped into my bedroom to wave farewell on her long journey to work!!!!
Safely set up in the extension she had ten meetings to get through and I only saw her briefly once... she works so hard.
I popped up to the Carn and the first of the heather is out.

It was breezy but I sat a while in the sun watching the skybus doing circuits and bumps - keeping flying hours up I guess.

Bridgie finished work about 6pm and after we'd eaten took a lovely walk down to the Cot Valley then up the long incline to Carn Gloose, and I met her in the car at Cape.

Wednesday 24th and Phil's birthday! We recalled Phil's epic Bath to Rome ride beginning on this day in 2017! what a different place our world is now. Brandi cooked an amazing Thai food meal for him... it looked amazing!

Today followed a similar pattern for Bridgie with just a couple less meetings and I went and played golf with Lindsay. We had a good time and on the way home I picked up this amazing salad  and chilli chocolate cake from Ben's to mark Phil's birthday - yum!
Bridgie is enjoying having such beautiful landscape to walk in.

Thursday

It was too stifling today... hot, no wind and airless. Here's Bridgie coming in to my bedroom to wave farewell as she set off for today's work!

It was so hot out - it was far cooler and more comfy in the house!
I was glad to be able to watch some golf on my laptop. Bridgie and I have been socially distancing as much as possible... haven't had a hug yet but it is so good to have her here. Today she repeated the lovely walk via Cot and Carn Gloose and we met and Cape and bought a takeaway pizza.
In the evenings we have watched The Great British Sewing Bee on iplayer which has been lovely to share.

Friday  followed the similar pattern and we gave ourselves the treat of fish and chips from the chip shop. You have to phone in your order and give a pick up time - Bridgie ran down in the rain and collected... absolutely delicious!

Saturday was windy with the odd bit of sunshine and a brief bit of drizzle. I played with Hilary and we had a good time - we are not allowed rakes in the bunkers so Hilary brought her own!

We didn't actually need it today but had to have a picture anyway!
Bridgie went for a walk over towards Gwynver and saw the beautiful purple fields of vipers bugloss.
I was happy to put my feet up in the afternoon and Bridgie cooked tea :-)

Sunday we had our family Zoom mid morning then we went for a walk to the Tregeseal holed stone. It was overcast but lovely to be out.

Again, the heather is just showing its colour.

View of Carn Kenidjack from the burial mound near the stones.

Later we shared our roast dinner with Andrew (next door).

It has been lovely this week not to be thinking about the news too much - I've avoided news programmes and just catch up briefly with what is going on - it's certainly better for the state of mind.... though  the crowded Dorset  beaches and tons and tons of litter left behind  were appalling.

Monday 22nd June

Monday 22nd
Bridgie had booked Monday off from work so we decided to walk over beyond the Crown's Mines in the morning.
There was a strong breeze blowing which made for fantastic seas and the sun joined us in parts which made the colours beautiful.
I took Bridgie over to where I had spotted the fulmars... and it was awe inspiring.

We walked back via the Kenidjack Castle headland and called in at Ben's to choose two cakes... a lemon and cashew polenta cake along with a coffee and walnut cake.
We had coffee and a tiny bit of cake (as it was lunchtime) !
Bridgie had a couple of university phonecalls - her MBA from Cranfield is still going on which is really good... they do everything on line.
We've watched The Sewing Bee on BBC which has been fun, they make some amazing things and are so inventive.
Bridgie starts work tomorrow and will be busy now all week... needless to say it's lovely to have her here!

12th...to the 21st June

12th to 21st June
The wet weather continued during the day with occasional breaks. At 12 noon, Geoff who is the men's Captain (he was also Captain in my year) was doing some fundraising. He planned to play 7 rounds in 24 hours, starting at 12 noon.
Here he is about to start, with Andy the owner of the club.

Geoff had lined up 7 guys to help it out, and some got a better deal than others. His second round was in absolutely torrential rain... by the beginning of the fourth round he had already used 3 changes of clothes!

I popped down again about 11.30 pm to see them playing in the dark and it was so exciting!

They had balls that lit up when you hit them and stayed bright for several minutes, and the hung glow sticks on the flagpoles although they weren't really effective enough.

They played through the night with a short break and finished at 12 noon on Saturday. He raised about £2,600 which was fabulous!

Altogether it was great fun, and it made me want to be playing!

The wet weather eventually cleared up and i went down to play a few holes in the evening... the sky was amazing.

Assorted other pictures... I played golf on Monday and Wednesday and then again on Saturday.

On Thursday Bridgie and I were chatting and she was wondering about coming down now that it was allowed if she was my bubble.  You can imagine how excited I became!

I took ages to get to sleep that night and spent Friday doing lots of cleaning in preparation!

I played golf Saturday morning then came home doing a few finishing off jobs... then went to collect Bridgie.

(I also had to check one of my tyres as it seems to slowly lose pressure.)

After travelling on the train she was keen to get out and seee the sea so we drove down to Cape and had a little walk.

It was very windy and not very warm so we needed coats!

Here she is!
So to today...Sunday 21st June... Father's day... we had a lovely family zoom... followed by Bridgie and I walking down the Cot Valley.
Last night there had been torrential rain along with the wind but today became sunny and beautiful.
The cliff fall at Porth Nanven has grown even bigger and you can see more parts of it that look ready to fall . The footpath is completely covered.
But there was lots of sand and it was looking beautiful

It is so lovely to have Bridgie here - so special.

..to the 12th June

...to the 12th June
It eventually dawned that I hadn't written this for a while... but shocked that eleven days have passed...so this will be a quick catch up!
I began this on my laptop but cannot access pictures to insert so ma trying again on my phone... Bear with me!
Ok...back on the laptop! Technology eh?

Yesterday 11th June was wet and very windy... not a day to venture out and I seem to have slept awkwardly so have a crick in my neck so a quiet day at home after a visit to Ben's for some hand cut chips and a cake!
(Altruistic of course to encourage local business!)
So I spent the day watching the golf on Golf TV which was really enjoyable, plus the odd nonogram... the one below was absorbing!

Restrictions have been lifted a little more... with someone living alone adopting another household in a "support bubble" it's sort of what I was doing already but it's nice to have it confirmed. One step at a time.

Wednesday 10th June I played 9 holes with Lindsay before the rain and wind began ...it really poured in the evening, Newquay recording 47mm of rain in 12 hours... more than April and May combined!

Tuesday 9th was a pottering around the house day with a trip down to the shop for some bits and pieces. The path down to the steps is a mass of colour - so pretty!
On Monday 8th I added a new person into my bubble, Judy  and along with Angie we played 18 holes. Judy stopped after 11 as it is only the second time she's played. it was so lovely to share laughter! And we did laugh!

Conditions were lovely!
In fact I didn't expect so much sun as we started out with grey skies but it turned out lovely!

Sunday  7th was grey and a little damp but I headed out and my footsteps took me up the Tregeseal valley to the stone circle and beyond.
Burial mound
I've lived here for seven years now and I have failed to find the holed stones that are up on this bit of moorland... so I thought I'd hunt them down.

And here they are.
They are off the main path... in fact they are between two paths and I had to cross heather to find them.

Once found I followed a different path back to the main one so hopefully it will be easier to find them next time

It is a wonderful stretch of moorland.

The days before this were a mix... you can see the low clouds below... but the heat of the day before was amazing.

On June 2nd I played golf in the afternoon - it was a wonderful hot day - 28C - absolutely glorious.  I wondered how hot it was in the actual sun so when I got home I put my little thermometer in the sunshine ... this was at 5pm!
During the day I had closed the blinds in the kitchen to keep it cool!

That brings us up to date.

Monday 1st June

Monday 1st June

After my early morning mug of tea I decided to set off before it got too hot or too busy!
So at 7.45 I was walking through St Just, just a few folk around - the co-op opens early and I headed out on the path towards Botallack.

When I'd sat on my bed I thought I might just go as far as Kenidjack Castle headland... but plans evolve and the path took me towards the Crown's Mines. They were still in the early morning shadow... I debated walking down to them and then spotted a couple much further on, already on that path so I decided to go onwards, along the cliff path above the Crown's Mines.

And it was beautiful.

For some reason this walk was good for my soul.

I skirted the cliff edge looking down into the beautiful turquoise  and deep blue waters.

They were crystal clear.

Leaving the main path I scrambled over some old tin waste and over the dry heather to find a lower narrow path, clear in places but generally overgrown with low gorse and bracken.

Cut offs had not been a good idea!

The views were fantastic, eventually I spotted a big block of stone and decided that that would be my turning point, but when I got there this rocky headland was close by.

So I went a little further to sit out on this headland - unnamed on the map - overlooking a natural arch.

I sat and watched the fulmars nesting on the cliffs and marvelled at the miners skill to build a huge retaining wall on the cliff edge... I must look out some old pictures to see what else was here.

The scramble through the scratchy gorse and finding this idyllic spot gave a much needed tranquility.
the best my phone could do,,,

I am so grateful to live in this amazing place.

the path back home

On the way back the sun was now  shining on the Crown's Mines...

It was a restorative walk.

And in the evening...  a lovely sunset... and reflected in my neighbour's window.
