Catch up!

Catch Up!

Yesterday, 29th March, we were out on the golf course again - for the first time since 2nd January.

We were blessed with glorious weather and it was so lovely to see folk again.

The golf itself is best described as entertaining! I took 10 on our first hole but things improved a little after that.

So good to be back and this morning aching in all the places I haven't used for almost 3 months!

The sun is now rising and setting on the North side of the terrace, always encouraging.

So since the last blog I have continued to walk every day. The weather has been absolutely glorious at times with some big seas running.

I love this corner of the path down to Cot

Several times  I've taken a flask of coffee and found a quiet place to sit and enjoy the see.

It was lovely to see ravens again on this walk to a lovey spot I think of as Jeannie and Alastair's because we'd stopped there one time.

With the sun rising higher in the sky we have had some lovely blues in the sea.

For a long time I have wanted to walk one of the old tin waterways along the side of the Tregeseal valley so early one morning I set off.

The path skirts this pond and is then marked by a National Trust  sign saying "this is not a footbath"
However, someone has been looking after it so I  went on (with a twang of guilt of course!)

You can see how it's been cleared,

and here they've cut the ivy back to tunnel through.
The weather was lovely and there were some fabulous waves.

Eventually I reached a point where the path hadn't been cleared.

The path had gone a long way, maybe another 30 yds beyond the white house in the next picture but on a level below it.  On the way back I took a different path, vertical in places, a hands and knees steep path back up to the proper Coast path.

I think it has also been cleared from the other end so one day I may tackle it from the Cape end and see if I reach the other side of the ivy blockage.

It was an exciting adventure.

A couple of days later I went over to Lindsay's in Newlyn and we walked from her house to Trewidden Gardens.

The lockdown has had the effect of making the prospect of walking somewhere new very exciting!

We walked across fields from her house and down into the valley, then across the main road to Trewidden and it was simply lovely.

We avoided the road and walked up a lovely path alongside it.
The view the other way across the fields is also lovely.

We picked up take away coffee and cake from Trewidden and went and sat among the ferns.

It was a lovely morning.

It was a treat of a day.

Since then my walks have been the usual, out to Carn Gloose, Cape or Cot  on a variety of paths. I feel so fortunate to be able to enjoy this.

It was a low spring  tide on Sunday and two people were out foraging on the rocks, we pondered what they might be collecting.

And that's brought us back up to date.

i have continued not to use social media or follow the news other than headlines.

Yippee!

 Cornish!

I have just completed our 2021 census... and very happy to say that Cornish is an acceptable option at last!

So proudly able to write it in the box!

Woohoo!

Time for bubbly perhaps.

Wednesday was a misty murky day with quite a thick mist up in St Just but as I ventured into the valley it was clearer. It was very atmospheric.

The tide was fairly low,

but lots of sand this side.

More sand than I've seen before.

I chose the steep path home - haven't been on it for a while and it doesn't get easier.

These steps are so steep I had to balance very carefully!

There are lovely signs of spring though

Early yesterday I went down to Cape as there were big waves forecast.

The photos don't do them justice of course, most about 8-10' tall with the odd one about 14'

I managed to avoid the heavy shower which hit just after I got home!

Our Covid rates are now down to 12/100,000 which is good (49 nationally) so things are improving.

Someone asked me what I was looking forward to the most, other than having the family here, it is going to Ben and Rosie's cafe The Dog and Rabbit, for their wonderful company and breakfast! Can't wait.

And yes Jeannie - that Secret Garden would make a wonderful project - I'd love to be a part of it.

Tuesday March 9th

March 9th

Last week took the same shape as previous ones with early walks.

With the sun still fairly low in the sky the colours are deep and warm, even if the wind is chill!

The sea was a beautiful colour too.

It was St Piran's Day on Friday and the flag was flying. There is usually a lot of decoration and celebration but not this year with all the restrictions.

My celebration was to bake some bread!

I have upped my walking distance over the last few weeks and though the paths are often the same there are always new glimpses or surprising colours.

On Saturday I picked up my paper from the newsagents and then walked to Cape along the Tregeseal Valley

Everything looks very brown

then suddenly this reed bed catches the sky and is a blue jewel on the valley floor.

We were also treated to this beauty.

I went out early again on Sunday, there had been a frost and the light was clear

Our usual family zoom was highly entertaining as at the start Tim was out shopping and took us with him into the shops and along the streets - lots we recognize from out visits there.
And then we signed in again - Tim was home but Bridgie was out on her run and took us all with her... hence the path top right and just the outline of her running shadow.

It is so lovely to catch up and it usually leaves me smiling for the rest of the day.

Yesterday schools went back properly - they have been open for the children of key workers but were opened up for everyone.
I dropped the car off for an mot and then Lindsay came over and we walked to Carn Gloose and then down across the golf course.

It was another beautiful day - cold in the wind but lovely out of it.

When we crossed the course we walked by the 'orchard' which is a sunken section once garden to the big house I believe.
Anyway, I have always wanted to explore it so we ventured in and it is just like a secret garden.
There were numerous golf balls of course, but it was magical.

I have a dream that one day parts of this could be turned back into fruit gardens.

Wall ferns catching the sun

There are  four sections to it I think, and we only looked at the bottom two.

As we left the course in the bottom corner by the NT car park at Cape there were three friends who had come over on the bus to look at the course!
All because, today we were actually allowed to meet someone else and have a picnic. it was lovely to see the others and chat. Golf itself isn't allowed until 29th so we have a while to wait yet
Lindsay and I then walked on out to the end and sat on a bench, sheltered from the wind but in warm sun.

We walked back via the Tregeseal valley, the sun behind us gave the sea a glorious mix of colours and the waves were beautiful.

I'd heard nothing about my car so popped out about 6.15pm to see if it was parked nearby and was treated to this delight.

Setting in line with the terrace - definitely moving towards spring.
I called in to the garage this morning and Mary apologised for not having called me... 'I was having a bad day' she said. There are several things that need doing, they are extremely busy and with all the extra Covid precautions everything takes longer.
I guess it may be with them for a few days, it is making me think it might be time to start looking for a slightly newer vehicle.

Today's little walk was across to the farm via a different path, the ground looks really dry and baked but more storms due.

Final picture... I liked these.
